ALANYC Receives Two ALA IDEA Awards

We are pleased to announce that ALANYC was selected as an IDEA Award winner for two of our initiatives! Our chapter has been recognized for our diversity newsletter, PRISM and for our Professional Journey Support Group. The IDEA Awards are a testament to the innovative thinking and creative programming that we strive to provide our members. It is a particularly special honor to be recognized this year for initiatives that contribute to the conversation of diversity and inclusion in the community and in the workforce.

ALA IDEA Awards
ALA’s Innovation, Development, Engagement and Advancement (IDEA) Awards program is designed to recognize unique programs, services and events that improve the legal community and advance the business of law.

PRISM
PRISM is ALANYC’s Diversity & Inclusion Newsletter. Developed by former Chapter President Jenniffer Brown, the first issue was released in 2015 and has continued to be a vehicle for our commitment to diversity. The 2019 theme of PRISM was “The History of America Through the Lens of Diversity & Inclusion.” As noted in the issue by 2018-2019 Team Leader Santa Medina, “Periods of crisis reveal the very soul of who we are as a people and as a nation.” Click here to view or download this issue of PRISM.

Thank you to all of our newsletter contributors: 2019-2020 D&I Team Members: Robert Cohen, Cassandra Jackson, Gina Negrin, Lesya Osipova, Patrice Martin, Matthew Frederick, Brigitte Figueroa and Santa Medina; Design: Lauren Allen; Technical Assistance: Doug Gibson; Business Partner Authors: Sarah Gillen, Emergency Skills, Inc., David Lovato, Distinctive Offices and Gayatri Joshi, Law Firm Sustainability Network; Printing: Kevin O’Sullivan and Konica Minolta; Proofreader/Editor Matthew Frederick; and our 2018-2019 Past President Jenniffer Brown.

Professional Journey Support Group
Our Professional Journey Support Group (PJSG) offers chapter members who experience challenges such as involuntary job loss, a transitional period or phases of retirement in their career, a group of dedicated ALA members to provide guidance, support, coaching, HR knowledge and practical tools to help them move forward towards their goals. Our team also supports members new to the legal industry or settling into a new role within legal administration. We offer some encouragement, guidance and advice as they learn to navigate our landscape.

Thank you to our PJSG leaders Francine E. Lahm, Vice President and Rick D’Aversa.

This is an exciting recognition for the chapter and this year our chapter will remain focused on bringing new and unique programming to our membership.
