ALANYC Diversity Equity & Inclusion, Outreach and Core, and the Symposium Teams present: Domestic Violence Awareness Month – Clothing Drive for families in need.
Are you cleaning out your closets to prepare for the Fall? Donate your items to families in need in support of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 41% of women and 26% of men experience physical or sexual violence and stalking, and 61 million women and 53 million men have experienced psychological aggression by an intimate partner in their lifetime. Intimate partner violence is a severe public health problem that can profoundly impact lifelong health, opportunity, and well-being.
To raise awareness during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, ALANYC’s DEI, Outreach and Core, and Symposium teams are partnering to collect clothing for families who are clients of Women in Need (Win). Win provides family housing and critical services for homeless families, helping families regain their independence and look forward to a brighter future.
We will collect brand-new or gently used adult professional clothing at this year’s Symposium. Donation bins will be available at the event. Donated clothing should be new or lightly worn with no rips/tears, holes, or stains. Clothing must be freshly washed if it is not new.
In support of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a purple ribbon will be distributed to all Symposium attendees.
If you cannot attend the Symposium but want to donate, contact Ayana Lewis or Santa Medina by October 19.
