Chief Operating Officer – New York City

A well established and highly respected full service law firm with 50 attorneys based in New York City seeks an experienced professional to serve as its Chief Operating Officer (COO) who will bring to the firm a level of business sophistication when dealing with the Co-Managing Partners, the Partners, associates and the Administrative support staff.

The COO will report directly to the Firm’s Co-Managing Partners and may participate in Executive Committee meetings. He/she will also participate in meetings relating to the firm’s operations.
He/she will lead and direct all of the administrative and operational functions at the firm including the accounting and financial management reporting, human resources, technology, information management, insurance and facilities through three direct reports.

The COO will need an in-depth knowledge of accounting, management and financial analysis in a professional services partnership with an understanding of partnership tax and accounting, i.e., Capital Accounts, etc.

He/she will prepare for the Co-Managing Partners a variety of reports including the timely analysis of budgets, financial reports and financial trends for revenue, expense and capital expenditures for the firm, its practice areas and offices. Candidates must have strong Excel skills, understand the formulas and be able to produce various reports.

He/she will provide logistical support and financial and management information for the development of strategic plans and their implementation and will analyze and monitor the financial results of initiatives.

The exceptional candidate we are seeking must be well organized and possess an excellent understanding of financial and accounting principles, strong interpersonal skills, exceptional verbal and written communication skills, advanced Excel proficiency including hands-on experience working with the formulas and problem solving and analytical skills, technological skills, leadership and negotiation skills. He/she must have the ability to perform and manage multiple projects concurrently.

A college and/or an advanced degree is desired. A designation as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or other advanced degree in an Accounting and Financial Management is preferred.
